Podcasts To Listen To NOW!
Updated: Jan 10, 2024
The uprising of a different form of entertainment.

Over the course of 2020, people coped with the global lockdowns in different ways, and for me, I got quite immersed in podcasts. Before I listened once in a while but now I listen every night as I go to sleep so you can bet I have a number of recommendations. In this article, however, I'll be going over podcasts I think everyone should be listening to in this current global climate.
1. WAVEFORM by Marques Brownlee
Marques is joined by Andrew Manganelli to discuss not only upcoming tech but also touch on the consumer product economy and what trends are affecting us today. This is a great podcast for the tech-savvy individual who is also curious about the ins and outs of how technology is evolving from mobile phones to electric vehicles.
I believe everyone should be listening to the WAVEFORM podcast especially now because of how much we rely on it today. Having to stay in the house for most of the day means we stay connected by means of technology and we better understand how it all impacts us helps us use it more effectively.
2. Brought To You By... by Business Insider
If I remember well, I think I stumbled upon this podcast through an ad in another podcast but I'm extremely grateful that I did. Brought To You By.. is an investigative story-telling podcast that looks at the backstories of the big companies we know today, for example when Levi's jeans used to be a black market commodity in Germany during World War 2.
This is a must-listen because knowing about the companies we buy from influences our buying choices especially now with companies' activities playing a big role in Global Warming and company CEOs being more involved in country policies.
3. Song Exploder by Hrishikesh Hirway
If you're a music lover like myself and have ever wondered how an artist came up with that song you yell out in the shower, Song Exploder is for you. Hrishikesh is joined by various musicians to talk about the events that inspired a specific song and their music creating process. The beauty of this podcast is that it doesn't just focus on the big artists or the popular songs (which you can tell is a conscious choice), but a wide variety of genres and cultures are featured.
I don't know about the whole global population but I'm certain for most of us music is a big part of our lives and getting to know the stories behind your favourite song gives you a new appreciation not just for the song and artist but for the craft of music as well.
4. 99% Invisible by Roman Mars
I've been listening to this podcast for probably 3 years and I still don't know the meaning behind its name but I enjoy the content nonetheless. Roman Mars has different producers come on each podcast to talk about interesting stories that may not otherwise be spoken about in mainstream media or stories that have shaped our world today, for example, the story behind why some countries use different traffic lights other than the common red, amber and green.
This podcast feels like a global history lesson and instead of revisiting the exhausted major events it shines a light on regional stories. While we're in the house it would be good to gain some insight into your area's history, find out why people believe certain things or behave a certain way in different parts of the world.
5. The World As You'll Know It by Aventine Research Institute
This is a fairly new podcast that was birthed out of the pandemic itself. A changing panel of experts comes together to discuss how this global pandemic is going to affect different aspects of our lives from housing to how we socialise based on the current measures put in place such as staying home to prevent the spread of this virus.
I feel this podcast should be part of everyone's library right now because not much is known about the lasting implications of this pandemic, not just on a healthcare level but also how country policies are implemented and this podcast gives us a glimpse into what to expect.
